Gameplay Guide

Solve each puzzle in 10 guesses

Each guess returns targeted feedback so you can narrow the answer quickly. Treat each row as a scouting report and work the clues.

Core rules

  1. Enter a current player from the loaded data snapshot.
  2. You get up to 10 guesses per puzzle.
  3. Every guess adds feedback across club snapshot, main position, age, NRL debut, rep honours, and NRL status, plus reference-only other positions.
  4. Solve early to improve your result and share score.

Player pool is primarily based on 2026 NRL squads, with some notable past players included.

Feedback key

LeagueCipher uses color tiles plus direction arrows for number-based clues.

  • Green = exact match.
  • Yellow = close or partial match by category.
  • Grey = no match.
  • UP / DOWN = your age or debut guess is low or high.
Tip: lock down Main Position and rep profile early, then dial in age/debut.

Column meanings

  • Club snapshot: club data frozen at the snapshot date.
  • Birthplace: uses city/region + country when available (for example, "Auckland, New Zealand").
  • Main position: green if main-to-main matches, yellow if main overlaps the other player's other positions.
  • Other positions: reference-only, always neutral, shows "None" when empty.
  • Age / NRL debut: includes direction hints.
  • Rep honours: none, Origin, International, or Both.
  • NRL status: active vs inactive, exact match only.

Winning approach

  • Open with a high-profile fullback or half to map multiple clues.
  • Use contrasting clubs and rep types in guesses 2-4.
  • When age/debut are close, prioritize Main Position + rep combinations.
  • If stuck, reset assumptions and test one strong contradiction.
